Kismaa's initial prototype was built rapidly with AI coding tools to validate market demand. It worked well in demos but had no error handling, exposed API keys in client-side code, unoptimised database queries that timed out under load, and a deployment process that required manual server access.
We ran a 3-week codebase rescue: hardcoded secrets were moved to environment variables with a secrets manager, database queries were optimised with proper indexing and connection pooling, the frontend was restructured into a component hierarchy with error boundaries, and a CI/CD pipeline was set up with automated testing and staging/production environments.
